Minnesota wolf public education project

Carolyn Towler, International Wolf Center, 1396 Highway 169, Ely, MN 55731, USA

Many curricula exist to teach people about the wolf's biology and ecology. The International Wolf Center is in the midst of a grant to develop new teaching methods about the wolf's relationship with humans in our modern world. This project will include the development of a curriculum, a traveling exhibit, and a series of teacher workshops. The International Wolf Center's concurrent session will highlight the details of the project, including its goals, intended audience (Grades 4 - adult), and current progress. The topic of wolf management includes a variety of disciplines (economics, geography, biology, politics, etc), and can be a focal point for learning various skills in the classroom. This curriculum is intended to multi-disciplinary, with a special emphasis on language/communication skills needed in wolf management (formulating opinions, critical thinking, group process, etc). This session will briefly touch on some of the content standards that this curriculum will cover in accordance with the State of Minnesota's Graduation Standards and Greenprint State Plan for Environmental Education.
