When presenting wolf education programs to school children
or community groups, audiences often expect a real, live wolf
to be part of the program. Since most educators do not have
live wolves, and because of the mixed messages using a live
wolf can present, a realistic model can provide a hands-on learning
experience that even a real wolf would not allow.
The display features a life-size wolf model that is suitable
for classroom and outdoor activities. The model is constructed
with fake fur over a PVC pipe and chicken wire skeleton and
utilizes taxidermy eyes and jaw-set. Photographs and sketches
document phases of construction, and sources for taxidermy supplies
and other materials are provided. Gentle hugging and handling
of the wolf model is encouraged.
