Gray wolves once existed throughout Utah; however, removal began shortly after European settlement. Currently no established wolf populations exist in this state, however due to close proximity of a viable wolf population in Idaho and Wyoming, wolves have wandered into Utah. In the event that a wolf population is established, Utah has created a wolf management plan.
Recent legislation has removed Federal protections for wolves in the northcentral corner of Utah adjacent to Idaho and Wyoming. Wolves are Federally protected in all other areas of Utah.
