Jim Williams, the International Wolf Center's assistant director for education, will leave his Ely post in August in order to join his fiancé in Duluth, Minnesota where the two plan to make their home.
After joining the Ely staff in January 2004, Williams led the Center's educational programs and Ely operations during a period of innovation and change that included:
- New wolf pups for the Ely ambassador pack;
- An international wolf conference in Colorado;
- Establishment of a new distance learning program, film festival, and educator workshop series;
- Refocusing of educational programs on the issues and audiences most critical to wolf survival;
- Creation of two major outreach initiatives in Minnesota and the Southwest, respectively; and
- Production of a traveling museum exhibit, K-12 curriculum, documentary film, and wolf behavior guidebook.
In addition, the Center will soon complete a new interactive component and a substantive new addition to its existing Web site, both of which were undertaken during Williams' tenure.
Williams expressed sadness about leaving the Center and the community of Ely. "I have never worked with a finer group of professionals and friends as I have at the International Wolf Center," Williams said. "I am excited to join my fiancé in Duluth but the prospect of leaving this extraordinary community is painful."
International Wolf Center Executive Director Walter Medwid commented on Williams' contribution to the Center and the community. "Jim's passion, intellect, knowledge and drive spurred all of us to explore new ways of doing and thinking," says Medwid. "He has truly left his mark on the organization and on so many of our products, services and communications."
Recruitment for the position of Assistant Director of Education will begin next week. Candidates can find a complete job description and further information at www.wolf.org.
