The most hotly debated wolf issues of this decade will be the focal point of this year's Midwest Wolf Stewards Conference (MWS) coming again to Minnesota April 26 & 27, 2012. This year's Midwest Wolf Stewards Conference is co-sponsored by the International Wolf Center, the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources and the Wildlife Science Center.

The MWS is an annual gathering of wolf professionals, academics and enthusiasts from the Great Lakes Region and beyond. This unique conference offers attendees a "one stop shop" for gaining new knowledge, networking and discovering collaboration opportunities.

Proceedings
Tentative Conference Agenda
You will find expert presenters from such states as Minnesota, Wisconsin, Michigan and Ontario providing updates and information on current wolf management issues, research and public interest topics.

Sessions at the MWS are informal and are divided into 15 to 30-minute presentations according to the subject discipline such as wolf management or habitat and offer opportunities for questions and discussions. This year's topics are expected to include:

  • State/province and tribal management of wolves
  • Depredation
  • Human safety
  • Genetics of Great Lakes wolves
  • Hunting/trapping of wolves
  • Habitat/wildlands concerns
  • Feral wolf-dog hybrid concerns
  • Prey populations

One of the highlights of the conference is the keynote presentation following the evening meal on the first day. This year's keynote speaker and agenda will be posted here as soon as it is available.

Registration is open to anyone interested in learning more about wolves in the Great Lakes Area.
